Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver educational instruction to diverse learners, including those with special needs, aligned with state and district standards.
  • Create a safe, engaging learning environment that promotes academic success, physical fitness, and life skills for global citizenship.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans through in-person and virtual formats, demonstrating evidence of preparation.
  • Communicate regularly with district personnel, students, and parents via phone, email, or video conferencing.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning, suitable for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Utilize internet and web-based technology for instruction and collaboration.
  • Assess and document student progress, prepare reports on achievement, grades, assessments, and attendance.
  • Supervise and manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Participate in conferences related to student development and achievement with parents, counselors, teachers, and administrators.
  • Perform general instructional duties, including ordering materials and attending meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Supervise paraprofessionals or instructional aides as needed.
  • Maintain consistent and prompt attendance.
Additional Requirements for Special Education Teachers
  • Identify educational needs and instruct students with varying exceptionalities.
  • Implement instruction based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitor progress, and communicate with families as directed by regulations.
  • Serve as case manager for students with disabilities, maintaining relevant documentation and facilitating IEP meetings.
  • Adhere to the Georgia professional code of educator ethics.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
  • Valid Georgia teaching certificate in the appropriate educational field.
Special Certifications and Endorsements
  • Certification in special education (e.g., Special Education, Adaptive Curriculum, General Curriculum) aligned with the teaching assignment.
  • Endorsements in ESOL & Gifted Education as required.
  • For Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE): minimum education, passing GACE Education Ethics Assessment, and industry experience or licensure.
