Job summary

HeritageWerks is seeking an Archivist to join our Archival Services team in the Duluth/Suwanee, Georgia area. You’ll work hands-on with historical collections, organizing, preserving, and unlocking the value of archival materials for a range of clients.

You’ll contribute through collection assessments, descriptive cataloging, finding aids, and digitization support, applying best practices and collaborating across teams to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or a comparable degree in Archives, Archival Studies, Information Science, Public History, Museum Studies, History, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Work hands-on with historical collections of all sizes, organizing, preserving, and unlocking value of archival materials.
  • Conduct collection assessments and surveys to understand scope, condition, organization, and research value.
  • Process, arrange, and describe physical and digital archival collections.
  • Perform descriptive cataloging, apply metadata standards, and create finding aids and inventories.
  • Apply archival preservation best practices when handling and storing materials.
  • Identify and recommend materials for digitization and support digitization projects.
  • Conduct historical and collection-based research and translate findings into briefs.
  • Learn client histories, collections, and priorities to provide archival recommendations.
  • Use digital archival tools to organize, describe, preserve, and provide access.
  • Collaborate across teams while managing multiple collections, clients, projects, and deadlines.
  • Support additional Archival Services initiatives as needed.

WhatYou’llDo

As an Archivist at HeritageWerks,you’llwork hands-on with historical collections of all sizes, collaborating with clients and team members to organize, preserve, and unlock the value of archival materials.

You’ll:

  • Conductcollectionassessments and content surveys to understand scope, condition, organization, and research value.
  • Process, arrange, and describe physical and digital archival collections.
  • Perform descriptive cataloging, apply metadata standards, and create clear finding aids andcollectioninventories.
  • Apply archival preservation best practices when handling, organizing, rehousing, and storing materials.
  • Identifyand recommend materials for digitization and support digitization projects and workflows.
  • Conduct historical and collection-based research, translating findings into clear, concise research briefs.
  • Learn client histories, collections, and priorities to provide thoughtful archival recommendations and support client needs.
  • Use digital archival and collection management tools to organize, describe, preserve, and provide access to collection materials.
  • Collaborate across teams while managing multiple collections, clients, projects, and deadlines with accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • SupportadditionalArchival Services initiatives and client projects as needs and priorities evolve.
What You Bring
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science(MLIS) or a comparable graduatedegree in Archives, Archival Studies, Information Science, Public History, MuseumStudies, History, or a closely related field.
  • 2-3+ years of hands-on archival processing,collectionsmanagement, or closely relatedarchival experience.
  • Demonstratedexperienceprocessing, arranging, and describing archival collections.
  • Experience creating finding aids, collection inventories, orotherarchival descriptivetools.
  • Knowledge of archival description, cataloging, metadata, and preservation bestpractices.
  • Experience conducting historical, collection-based, or primary-source research.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multipleprojects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital archival or collectionmanagement tools.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to lift and move archival materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work onsite at HeritageWerkslocations in Duluth and/or Suwanee, Georgia,based on business needs.
  • Ability to travel occasionallyasneeded.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Archivist (CA) credential.
  • Experience using archival standards and systems such as DACS, EAD,ArchivesSpace,or comparable tools.
  • Experience with digitization projects, digital preservation, and/orborn-digitalcollections.
  • Experience working with corporate, brand, museum, special collections, or otherhistorical collections.
  • Experience balancing multiple collections, projects, clients, or stakeholder prioritiessimultaneously.
