Job summary

American University is seeking an Archives Student Project Assistant to process archival collections donated by the USAID Alumni Association. You will follow a processing plan, describe materials, and help prepare a finding aid under supervision.

The role emphasizes attention to detail and teamwork, with 10 hours per week, in-person work at the Spring Valley Building. Strong organizational and MS Office skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with strong organizational and research abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and attention to detail.
• Ability to learn new workflows, tools, and technologies.
• Ability to lift items up to 40 pounds and access high shelves as needed.

Responsibilities

• Organize and describe new and legacy archival collections following established plans.
• Perform basic preservation and arrangement tasks per standards.
• Track project progress using Excel, Word, and Teams.
• Assist with reading room duties and reference requests as needed.
