Job summary

The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a part-time archival processing assistant for the Claremont Center for Engagement with Primary Sources (CCEPS) in Southern California. You will process manuscript collections to national standards, survey collections, and write processing plans; you will create inventories and enter data into Archivists’ Toolkit.

Position is a limited duration internship of 12–15 weeks (summer), with Monday–Friday hours. Compensation is $20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

Enrolled students with interests in arts/design, humanities, social sciences, or archival work.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and raise questions as needed.
Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel) and strong written/oral communication.

Responsibilities

Process manuscript/archival collections following national standards and best practices.
Survey archival collections and appraise their archival value to determine the need for permanence.
Write a processing work‑plan identifying the series arrangement in a collection.
Sort and arrange the collection based on the identified series.
Re‑house the collection identifying items requiring conservation work.
Label and number folders and boxes.
Create inventory at item, folder or box level.
Enter data into Archivists’ Toolkit (or similar archival software) for finding aid production.
