This 12-month term position supports fieldwork, measured drawings, photography, and related publication work within the Department of Architectural Preservation and Research. The successful candidate will conduct original research on Chesapeake region structures, prepare reports, and present findings at professional venues, with a 40-hour

Qualifications

• Master's degree in preservation, history, architecture, material culture, or related field.
• Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• Must provide a 5-year Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• May not have more than 1 moving violation or at fault accident within 12 months.
• May not have more than 2 moving violations or at fault accidents within 36 months.

Responsibilities

• Conducts original research and fieldwork on early structures within the Chesapeake region to support preservation and educational goals.
• Prepares analytical and interpretive reports and in-house materials to support missions.
• Documents buildings and architectural features following Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) standards.
• Prepares 2D and 3D digital architectural documentation drawings.
• Presents lectures and AV presentations to internal and external audiences.
• Collaborates with internal and external partners to complete projects.
