About Archive Owl

Archive Owl is an architect-led documentation studio and emerging digital platform rethinking how buildings are documented, represented, and preserved.

We create precise, design-ready as-built drawings, 3D scans, and digital property records for architects, interior designers, and property owners. Our work brings together architectural representation, reality capture, historical research, and emerging technology to create enduring records of the built environment.

We believe the documentation of architecture deserves the same rigor, care, and attention to detail as its design.

We are building a team of individuals who share that conviction.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptionally curious and visually discerning individual with a deep appreciation for architecture, architectural history, and the art of representation.

Someone who can appreciate the beauty of a historic measured drawing, recognize the nuances of a thoughtfully composed architectural plan, and envision how emerging technologies might transform the way we document and preserve buildings.

You may be an emerging architect, architectural researcher, graduate student, or experienced professional. We are less interested in conventional credentials than in exceptional curiosity, visual intelligence, technical aptitude, and an uncommon commitment to quality.

Working directly with our founder and architectural team, you will help shape Archive Owl's visual language, drawing standards, and approach to architectural documentation while exploring new methods of recording and understanding the built environment.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing company at the intersection of architecture, history, design, and technology.

Responsibilities
  • Research and study exemplary architectural drawings, historical documentation, and methods of representing the built environment.
  • Help establish and refine Archive Owl's architectural drawing standards, graphic language, and presentation methodologies.
  • Evaluate architectural documentation for visual clarity, consistency, accuracy, and overall quality.
  • Explore emerging technologies in reality capture, scan-to-BIM, artificial intelligence, computational design, and digital archiving.
  • Research architectural histories, original drawings, photography, and property records to support the creation of lasting architectural archives.
  • Collaborate with architectural production and technology teams to improve documentation workflows and deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas, tools, and processes that elevate how existing buildings are recorded, organized, and understood.
Qualifications
  • Graduate-level education in architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, or a related discipline preferred. Current master's and PhD students, recent graduates, working professionals, and experienced practitioners are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong appreciation for architectural drawing conventions, graphic composition, and visual communication.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, independent thinking, and research abilities.
  • Familiarity with architectural design and documentation software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong interest in emerging technologies and their applications to architecture and the built environment.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and work collaboratively in a remote environment.
Particularly Valuable Experience
  • Architectural history, classical architecture, historic preservation, or archival research.
  • Architectural representation, measured drawings, technical illustration, or editorial graphic design.
  • LiDAR capture and processing, point clouds, photogrammetry, Matterport, or digital twins.
  • Scan-to-BIM workflows and tools such as Autodesk ReCap, Revit, or comparable reality-capture and modeling platforms.
  • AI-assisted workflows, computational design, automation, or programming.
  • Developing architectural drawing standards, graphic systems, or documentation methodologies.

We do not expect every applicant to possess all of these skills. We are equally interested in individuals with exceptional expertise in one area and the curiosity to explore others.

Who Thrives Here

We are especially seeking candidates who are unusually passionate about architecture and the ways it is represented.

You might study historic architectural drawings for pleasure, obsess over the composition and line weights of a beautifully executed plan, or spend your free time experimenting with emerging design technologies.

Perhaps you are fascinated by the work of architectural historians and preservationists, or equally captivated by the possibilities of AI, digital twins, and computational design.

You believe that architectural documentation can be both technically rigorous and visually compelling.

Above All, You Care Deeply About The Details.
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: Flexible, part-time engagement, with hours determined based on availability and project needs.
  • Compensation: $25–$40 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Growth: Potential for an expanded, long-term, or full-time position.
  • Start Date: Flexible.

We particularly encourage applications from current graduate students and emerging professionals with a demonstrated passion for architectural drawing, historical research, and emerging technology.

Join the Parliament of Owls!

At Archive Owl, we are assembling a team of curious minds with an uncommon appreciation for architecture, representation, and the details that define our built environment.

We believe exceptional work comes from people who care deeply about their craft, challenge conventions, and share a commitment to creating something enduring.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
