KTA is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Architectural Project Manager to oversee a variety of projects in the fields of building restoration, facade repair, and adaptive reuse. This role needs someone with a strong foundation in architecture or engineering and with extensive construction administration and inspection experience. The Project Manager drives the entire project lifecycle— from schematic design through completion—while managing client relationships, budgets, timelines, and project teams. This individual is responsible for the preparation of architectural plans, specifications, reports, and drawings for restoration and alteration projects. This position requires a high level of responsibility, autonomy, and collaboration with senior leadership to ensure the successful execution of complex architectural projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership & Execution: Lead all aspects of architectural projects, including project timelines, budgets, and quality control. Ensure that every phase, from schematic design to construction, runs smoothly and meets the firm’s standards.
  • Client Management: Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for clients, managing expectations, proactively addressing concerns, and ensuring the project is completed to their satisfaction. Foster strong, professional relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Holistic Project Management: Take a systematic and comprehensive approach to each project, ensuring that all technical, financial, and logistical aspects are integrated. Anticipate and respond to field conditions, proactively managing unforeseen challenges.
  • Restoration & Alteration Expertise: Utilize your deep knowledge and passion for restoration and façade repair to oversee the technical and creative aspects of restoration/alteration projects. Manage custom construction detailing to preserve historical integrity while incorporating modern functionality. Perform technical reviews.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with a team of architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals. Collaborate with senior project managers (SPMs) and associate project managers (APMs) to ensure all project milestones are met and that work adheres to the firm’s quality standards.
  • Technical Skills: Prepare and review construction documents, identify project needs, prepare estimates, and coordinate site inspections. Oversee technical report writing and ensure clear, direct communication between all project stakeholders. Demonstrate advanced field sketching abilities for site observations. Prepare clear and organized technical reports.
  • Field Supervision & Inspections: Regularly visit construction sites to ensure work is progressing as planned, conduct scaffold inspections, and perform quality control checks. Address any field conditions or issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Business Development & Marketing: Assist in business development activities by contributing to proposals, presentations, and marketing materials. Participate in meetings with potential clients and industry organizations, support efforts to expand the firm’s portfolio of work.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage and mentor APMs, ensuring that they are equipped to support project needs effectively. Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to junior staff to enhance their professional growth.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all necessary regulatory filings are completed with NYC DOB, LPC, and other relevant agencies. Stay up to date with changes in building codes, standards, and local regulations that affect the project.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in architectural project management, with a strong background in restoration, façade repair, or adaptive reuse projects.
  • Education: A professional degree in Architecture or Engineering (Bachelor’s or Master’s). Active pursuit of professional licensure (RA, PE, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Certifications: Must have NYC scaffolding certification and the ability to work on both fixed and suspended scaffolding as well as aerial lifts.
  • Skills & Expertise: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Suite is required. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Plangrid, Procore) and building design software (Revit) is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability to drive projects forward independently and within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
