Job summary

Carter Lumber Company is seeking an experienced Architectural Millwork Custom Door Builder to assemble and fabricate doors per job orders with minimal supervision. You will review shop drawings, plan build sequences and verify dimensions to ensure top quality and safety compliance.

The role requires strong carpentry skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of millwork practices. Join a team focused on precision, craftsmanship and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience reading architectural drawings, shop drawings, specifications and work orders.
• Proficient in shop math, fractions, geometry, layout, measuring, and tolerance control.
• Knowledge of wood products, veneers, laminates, hardware, joinery, adhesives, machining, sanding and assembly methods.
• Ability to select efficient build approaches, solve fit and constructability issues, with limited supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, communication and accountability for quality and schedule.
• Familiarity with architectural woodwork standards and commercial millwork requirements is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review approved drawings, specs, work orders and material lists to understand design intent and quality requirements.
• Plan build sequence, joinery, tooling, templates, fixtures, material usage and assembly approach for custom products.
• Verify field dimensions, tolerances, revisions and finishes before fabrication.
• Lay out components using drawings or templates with accuracy.
• Fabricate millwork from hardwoods, veneers, plywood, MDF and laminates.
• Build complex assemblies using joinery, adhesives, dowels, splines and fixtures.
• Cut, shape, route, drill, sand, fit and assemble components with hand tools and machinery.
• Develop reusable templates, jigs or methods to improve accuracy and repeatability.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections for dimensions, square, fit and color match.
• Coordinate handoffs with machining, finishing, quality, packaging and shipping teams.
• Maintain identification of finished products and production progress in CAM systems.
