Job summary

SERA Architects Inc. is seeking a Job Captain in Portland, OR to carry design intent into coordinated, buildable architectural documentation. You will work with Project Architects, Project Managers, and consultants to lead day-to-day technical coordination and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities include adherence to BIM standards, developing details with vendors, and coordinating permit applications. Strong Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited program.
• 4–7 years of industry experience in an architect's office.

Summary

The Job Captain carries design intent into coordinated, technically sound, and buildable architectural documentation. Working closely with Project Architects, Project Managers, consultants, and the project team, they lead day-to-day technical coordination, resolve issues, and keep work moving forward. The role also includes directing and supporting the work of more junior staff while contributing to a collaborative, accountable project team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary

1. Understand and ensure adherence to SERA's graphic standards across team members.
2. Create graphic presentations such as design review, client presentations, and marketing collateral.
3. Research and coordinate details regarding specific scopes of work and/or sub consultants.
4. Work with product vendors/manufacturers to develop architectural details. Coordinate with other team members and building systems/components.
5. Ability to perform independent construction contract administration.
6. Supervise, coordinate, plan, and review the work of 1-3 staff members. This includes the mentoring of staff on project teams.
7. Use the building code to develop architectural drawings. Provide code interpretations supporting the project objectives.
8. Support the project by interacting with jurisdictions to obtain building permits.
9. Interact with the client to achieve project goals.
10. Familiarity and adherence to project contract requirements.

Additional

1. Interact with other SERA resources to achieve project goals.
2. Handle the health and welfare of the Revit model.
3. Develop, codify, and enforce the BIM Execution Plan on assigned projects.
4. Model the firm’s values and core commitments, ensuring alignment with internal expectations for professionalism, collaboration, and ethical behavior.

6. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited program.
• Generally have 4-7 years of industry experience in an architect's office.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office Suite required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of Sketchup and Bluebeam preferred.
• Ability to communicate through verbal, written, and graphic communication formats.
• Ability to determine the right tool for the task.
• Ability to prioritize and evaluate multiple important tasks.
• Established critical thinking to identify strengths, weaknesses, or alternate solutions to a problem with some supervision.
• Develop professional judgment and decision-making processes to determine the most appropriate course of action.
