Brief Description
The Job Captain will be responsible for the administration of architectural projects, controls operations, and ensure each project follows building codes and project specifications. They will work under the direction of the Design Manager and assist with producing, coordinating, and maintaining technical designs and construction documents and timelines.
What You'll Be Doing
General Project Administration
- Monitor project schedules.
- Assist the Design Managers in reviewing current and future workload to determine staff assignments.
- Assist in researching and collecting information.
- Document and distribute all critical project information to appropriate team members and outside parties.
- Maintain professional and congenial relationships with all staff and consultants.
- Monitor the performance of drafting personnel and provide assessments to Design Managers.
- Provide developmental support and training to Drafter and Designer team members.
Contract Document Production
- Host and/or attend Project Kick-off Meetings.
- Verify site-specific requirements and obtain necessary approvals.
- Identify jurisdictional requirements, such as applicable codes and submittal/plan check processes.
- Develop a 'cartoon set' of drawings based on Association CAD standards.
- Determine and oversee the development of additional detailing as required.
- Review project finishes.
- Monitor the progress and quality of drawings, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Coordinate consultant drawings development and review.
- Assist in compiling project specifications and editing them as needed.
- Support Designers and Drafters in preparing and submitting drawings for plan check, reviewing comments, and resubmitting as required.
- Assist with issuing bid documents, revising plans, issuing addenda, and responding to contractor questions.
- Help in issuing construction documents and change directives, and respond to RFIs during construction.
- Assist in project closeout activities, including archiving files and drawings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field from a four-year college.
- Minimum 10 years of related architectural experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a Job Captain or similar role.
- Valid California Driver’s License and active auto insurance.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (latest version), Revit, and other business software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.
- Effective communication skills across all levels of staff and management.
- Strong planning, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and be self-motivated.
- Knowledge of building codes and permitting processes.
- Professional interaction with officials, contractors, and consultants.
- Ability to understand construction documents and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of SketchUp.
- Familiarity with OSHA, SWPPP, AQMD requirements.
- California Architecture License preferred.

Position: Mid-Senior level, Full-time. Industry: Design, Art/Creative, and IT. Location: Los Angeles, CA. Salary: $85,000 - $144,700 depending on experience.
