The Nebraska State Historical Society, working through the State Archeology Office, seeks an Architectural Historian to document and evaluate Nebraska's historic built environment. The role supports the Highway Archeology Program and NDOT in NHPA/NEPA compliance and involves fieldwork across Nebraska with collaboration among cultural resource professionals, Tribes, and agencies.

Requires a Master’s in history/archeology/architectural history or equivalent, plus research/writing experience;

Competenze

• Master’s degree in history, archeology, architectural history or closely related field; OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above noted fields plus two years’ experience in research/writing/teaching or equivalent.
• Familiarity with Great Plains history and architectural trends; experience writing technical reports and knowledge of cultural resource regulations (NHPA, NEPA, Section 106).
• Willingness to travel and possess a valid driver’s license.

Mansioni

• Conduct in-depth research on architectural history and context using primary and secondary sources.
• Identify and evaluate properties for potential National Register eligibility through archival research, survey, reporting, and photography.
• Assess impacts of undertakings under NHPA, NEPA, and related laws.
• Prepare detailed technical reports documenting survey results.
• Use ArcGIS Pro and ESRI GIS tools to document project data and create professional maps.
• Support other departments and engage in public education on historic preservation.
