Job summary

Stantec seeks an Architectural Historian to work independently on research, fieldwork, and historic context development for compliance projects. You will prepare descriptions and determinations of eligibility, conduct archival research, and support agency consultations.

The role involves travel, both in field and office settings, and collaboration with environmental professionals. A graduate degree in a related history field is required, with CRM experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or certificate in public history, heritage conservation, architectural history, or related field meeting standards for Architectural History.
  • Experience as architectural historian in CRM is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to travel to meet project needs and to work in field and office settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop historic contexts for compliance documents.
  • Prepare architectural descriptions and determinations of eligibility.
  • Perform fieldwork including photographing resources and data collection with mobile devices.
  • Conduct archival research online and in libraries/repositories.
  • Prepare inventory forms and technical reports.
  • Support consultations with state, federal, and local agencies.
  • Assist with NRHP nominations, preservation plans, and HABS/HAER documentation.
