Job summary

University System of New Hampshire seeks an Architectural Drafting Specialist to create precise CAD drawings and campus facility documentation for Plymouth State University. You will build and manage construction standards, signage, and space plans, coordinating with departments and community partners.

The role includes preparing field measurements, performing surveys, and supporting special projects while ensuring ADA and fire safety compliance across campus facilities and grounds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or equivalent in Architectural/Building Trades/CAD or related field with 4 years of architectural drafting experience.
  • Experience with computer-assisted design (CAD) and producing construction drawings and reports.
  • Ability to prepare reports and studies related to facilities, ADA compliance, space inventories.

Job description

The Architectural Drafting Specialist reports to the Facility Project Manager and provides technical support to the campus community and public regarding the buildings, grounds and utility systems that make up the Plymouth State University campus. The Architectural Drafting Specialist will be responsible for creating accurate documentation to include CAD drawings and layouts; campus property reports for area, capacity, and usage; build and manage the university's materials and construction standards; develop and install exterior and interior signage; as well as provide special project management as assigned in liaison with departments, state, and/or with the town of Plymouth on university facilities and ground issues.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Create Accurate Documentation on University Facilities and Grounds
  • Prepare reports on area, size and usage of various campus properties for departments/agencies requesting specific information
  • Take field notes/measurements, and perform survey work for purpose of producing construction originals and preparing CAD plans for user approval and/or other projects.
  • Prepare various reports and studies including ADA compliance/transition reports, space inventories and other facility management studies as required
  • Prepare and provide CAD drawings for Physical Plant contractors and various college/university departments for construction and/or renovation of campus properties and present designs to campus and external personnel/specialists as requested
  • Maintain/modify existing CAD drawings to reflect changes in facilities
  • Develop schematic design options based on existing environment and needs
  • Assist client in selecting design, prepare drawings with details and select materials as assigned

  • Final drawings meet needs of user and are approved by Drafting Specialist
  • Generate drawings to be submitted to fire marshal for building permits.
  • Submit building permit applications in coordination with facility project manager.
  • Fire Code Compliance
  • Schedule required inspections with the fire marshal.
  • Create space layouts for fire marshal (etc.) approval (Classroom capacity, All large inside and outside events and functions in rooms, tents, auditoriums)
  • Insure compliance with fire safety codes for fire marshal approval
  • Final drawings meet needs of user and are approved by Drafting Specialist
  • Schedule and participate in monthly life safety inspections with the fire marshal.
  • Return written response from life safety inspection to the fire marshal with a corrective action plan.
  • Plan and execute corrective actions identified by fire marshal.
  • Build and manage university's materials and construction standards
  • Communication & Compliance
  • Room numbering, construction materials & some methods, logo use & branding consistency, paint consistencies, etc.
  • Develop and install exterior & interior signage including wayfinding.
  • Sourced sign companies; value engineered project to affordable levels; troubleshoot all sign location logistics; interface between academics and physical plant; work directly with UPD and President to make final determinations;.
  • Source sign making equipment & software and manage and maintain it.
  • Fabricate signs using CNC machine.
  • Final signage meet needs of user and are approved by Drafting Specialist.
  • Coordinate signage design with PSU's Communications & Marketing Department.

  • Maintain department web site
  • Special projects management
  • Examples (President's house projects, Marketing and Promotional efforts (i.e. floats & graphics), Bollards sourcing and installation, Researching real estate opportunities for the university, etc.)
  • Manage contractors required to complete special projects including but not limited to: bidding/purchasing, access, stakeholder coordination, inspection, and closeout.
  • Liaison with departments and/or town of Plymouth regarding PSU issues as needed (Signage, Property line discrepancies, Right of way issues, PSU/DOT land swaps & state signage, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other schools within the USNH system to identify projects/programs that could be beneficial to PSU.
  • Responsible for purchasing and budget management of projects assigned by Director or Facility Project Manager.
  • Maintain PSU's library of university facilities and grounds documents (drawings, plans, blue prints, cut sheets, specifications, etc.).
  • Assist personnel, contractors, design professionals locate, interpret and copy these documents as needed.

  • Graduate in Architectural/Building Trades/CAD or closely related field and four years of architectural drafting experience which includes computer assisted design, or combination of higher education in architecture/computer assisted design and work exp
