Job summary

Woolpert seeks a Healthcare Designer to join the Healthcare Architecture Team in Charlotte, NC (hybrid: in-office Mon–Thu, remote Fri). The role leads healthcare planning, design efforts, and coordination with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams on projects of moderate to increasing complexity.

The candidate will have strong healthcare planning background, experience with AHJs, and proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; LEED/EDAC preferred. Visa sponsorship is not provided.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in healthcare planning and design activities for projects of moderate to increasing size and complexity.
  • Develop innovative healthcare design solutions supporting clinical operations, patient experience, staff efficiency, and organizational goals.
  • Conduct healthcare programming, space planning, workflow analysis, and departmental planning studies.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and oversee architectural drawings, specifications, reports, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients, user groups, healthcare stakeholders, consultants, and internal project teams throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinate healthcare design requirements with multidisciplinary engineering, medical equipment, and specialty consulting teams.
  • Perform quality reviews and support compliance with healthcare design standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in construction administration activities, including site observations and RFIs.
  • Mentor junior designers and support professional development.
  • Support business development through client engagement, proposals, presentations, and interviews.
  • Travel to client facilities and project sites as required.

Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Healthcare Designer to join our dynamic Healthcare Architecture Team at our Coral Gables/Fort Lauderdale, FL or Charlotte, NC office. This position reports to an Architecture Team Leader and is responsible for leading healthcare planning and design efforts on projects of moderate to increasing complexity. Qualified candidates will possess strong healthcare planning expertise, technical design capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.

This role serves as a key contributor to healthcare facility planning, clinical workflow analysis, project coordination, technical documentation, and project delivery while supporting client relationships and mentoring less‑experienced staff.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located. Hybrid work environment, Monday to Thursday in office. Fridays work from home.

What You Will Do
  • Participate in healthcare planning and design activities for projects of moderate to increasing size and complexity.

  • Participate in construction administration activities, including site observations, review of submittals, responses to RFIs, and evaluation of field conditions.
  • Mentor junior designers and support the professional development of team members.
  • Support business development efforts through client engagement, proposal support, presentations, and project interviews.
  • Travel periodically to client facilities, project sites, and meetings as required.
  • Occasionally work beyond normal business hours to meet project deadlines and client commitments.
What You Will Bring
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in architecture, healthcare planning, or healthcare design.
  • Experience planning, designing, or supporting healthcare facilities such as hospitals, ambulatory care centers, outpatient clinics, specialty care facilities, medical office buildings, or behavioral health environments.
  • Experience leading portions of projects and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience dealing with AHJs.
  • Working Knowledge of FGI, FBC, FBC-A, FFPC.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Progress toward architectural licensure preferred.
  • Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) preferred.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) preferred.
Software
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and healthcare planning or visualization tools preferred.

Pay Range

$75,400 — $94,300 USD
