Job summary

Tichenor & Thorp Architects, Inc. seeks an Architectural Designer to join our studio to contribute and develop both technical and creative skills alongside an experienced team.

Our integrated design approach allows collaboration among architects, landscape architects, and interior designers to produce highly detailed, thoughtfully executed work. Compensation is commensurate with experience and benefits are included.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2–5 years of professional architectural experience.
  • Experience with construction documents and administration, including tenant improvements and interior architecture.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino.
  • Understanding of building systems and current codes.
  • Excellent graphic presentation skills, both digital and hand-rendered.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with ability to manage deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; fluent English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • As an Architectural Designer, you will play an integral role in all phases of project development.
  • Prepare architectural drawings and construction documents.
  • Develop presentation materials and design studies.
  • Coordinate with consultants and conduct code/material research.
  • Organize documents and samples; assist with permit submittals.
  • Provide construction administration support to Project Managers and Principals.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2–5 years of professional architectural experience.
  • Experience with construction documents and administration, including tenant improvements and interior architecture.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator), and Rhino or other 3D modeling software.
  • Understanding of building systems, construction detailing, and current building codes.
  • Excellent graphic presentation skills, including both digital and hand-rendered communication.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-end custom residential architecture.
  • Experience coordinating with consultants and preparing permit and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of Southern California building codes and permitting processes.
  • Interest in sustainable design and thoughtful material selection.
  • Background in commercial healthcare facilities is a plus.
  • Experience with hand drafting and freehand sketching, with the ability to clearly communicate design concepts.
