Job summary

Summit Design and Engineering Services in Raleigh, NC is seeking an Architectural Designer to join our growing team. You will contribute from concept through construction, shaping the built environment with hands-on design work and coordination across disciplines.

The role requires 2-5 years of professional experience, an accredited architecture degree, and Revit proficiency. You will collaborate with clients, consultants, and project teams in various meeting formats and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support design phases from concept to construction documents.
• Create design drawings, plans, sections, elevations, and 3D models in Revit.
• Coordinate documentation with structural, civil, landscape, MEP, and others.
• Assist Project Architects/Managers with planning and deliverables.
• Research codes, zoning, accessibility, and life-safety requirements.
• Collaborate with clients and consultants in various meeting formats.
• Participate in QA/QC reviews.
• Perform site visits and existing conditions documentation.
• Assist construction administration activities (RFIs, submittals, punch lists).
• Create presentation graphics and renderings for client pursuits.
• Mentor interns and junior designers.
• Maintain awareness of new technologies and best practices.

We're looking for a creative and driven Architectural Designer to work in our Raleigh, NC office and be part of a growing team working on impactful projects. As an Architectural Designer at Summit, you'll play a hands-on role in shaping the built environment. You'll contribute to projects from concept through construction, and gain exposure to a wide range of design phases and building types.

Responsibilities

• Support all phases of design including conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.
• Create design drawings, plans, sections, elevations, and 3D models using Revit and other software.
• Coordinate project documentation with structural, civil, landscape architecture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty consultants.
• Assist Project Architects and Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, and deliverable coordination.
• Conduct building code, zoning, accessibility, and life-safety research and incorporate requirements into project documentation.
• Collaborate with clients, consultants, and contractors in virtual, in-person, and on-site meetings.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews throughout design and documentation phases.
• Perform site visits, field verification, and existing conditions documentation.
• Assist with construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, change order evaluations, punch lists, and site observation reports.
• Create presentation graphics, renderings, diagrams, and materials for client presentations and project pursuits.
• Mentor interns and entry-level designers and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, materials, building systems, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

• An accredited degree in Architecture (Master's degree a plus)
• 2-5 years of professional experience; actively pursuing licensure
• Proficiency in Revit required, including BIM coordination and construction documentation
• Understanding of design, detailing, materials, and construction methods
• Familiar with building codes and coordination across disciplines (civil, MEP, structural).
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary consultant teams.
• Experience preparing comprehensive construction documents and technical detailing.
• Familiarity with construction administration processes, including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and punch lists.
• Strong problem-solving skills and technical creativity
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work independently.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
