Qualifications

Job description

Role Summary
The Architect II - Project Architect is responsible for leading and coordinating small- to mid-size architectural projects through design, documentation, permitting, construction, and post-occupancy. Working closely with the Lead Design Professional, Project Managers, consultants, contractors, owners, and clients, this position helps manage project scope, schedule, budget, drawing and BIM production, quality assurance, and consultant coordination. The Architect II provides project-level leadership, contributes to design and technical execution, maintains client confidence, and supports the continued development of HAA's project delivery and BIM standards.

Project Leadership & Delivery
  1. Lead, coordinate, and monitor project personnel to ensure individual assignments support project requirements
  2. Maintain awareness of scope, schedule, budget, and status for assigned projects; allocate and monitor effort to support compliance with budgets, fees, and schedules
  3. Keep managers informed of project progress and identify when assistance is needed
  4. Track and assist the Project Manager with documentation of changes in scope and/or additional services
  5. Lead consultants, contractors, and owners through a proactive, integrated project-delivery process across design, construction, and post-occupancy phases
  6. Lead and coordinate consultant work for small- to mid-size projects with construction costs under $10,000,000
  7. Attend internal and external meetings with consultants, clients, agencies, and other stakeholders; prepare and distribute meeting notes
  8. Focus on client satisfaction and identify opportunities to provide additional future project-related services
  9. Develop and maintain client confidence in HAA through professionalism, accountability, and strong performance
Design, Documentation & Technical Execution
  1. Lead the organization of drawing and BIM efforts
  2. Conduct architectural studies; develop design concepts and design criteria; and prepare reports, calculations, and detailed design and construction documents
  3. Conduct preliminary field surveys and develop designs and drafts
  4. Develop drawing sets using current HAA and AIA standards, including compiling construction document sets from start to finish in Revit
  5. Prepare materials, write construction specifications, and prepare detailed construction documents
  6. Execute project code reviews
  7. Collaborate with or serve as the project designer, as assigned
Regulatory, Construction Administration & Quality
  1. Participate in the presentation of plans and documents to authorities for land use, zoning, and permit approvals
  2. Observe construction projects in progress and upon completion for adherence to plans and specifications; advise contractors on interpretation of plans and specifications
  3. Follow established standards for project production and review
  4. Ensure the quality assurance program is initiated and maintained throughout the life of the project
BIM & Team Collaboration
  1. Work effectively with project team members to meet deadlines and project requirements
  2. Work with team members to maintain and improve BIM practices
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to confidently and decisively take action
  2. Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems and sustainability
  3. Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills with strong attention to detail
  4. Strong verbal, written, technical, and graphic communication skills
  5. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry and trade publications
  6. Entitlements and permitting experience
  7. Knowledge of integrated design and LEED guidelines; LEED accreditation preferred
  8. Proficiency in Revit, Newforma, and Microsoft Office
  9. Proficiency with computer-assisted design and visualization software, including Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Enscape, and Bluebeam
  10. Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, and material application
  11. Experience in construction document development
  12. Knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering systems related to design, performance, and building costs; international experience preferred
  13. Knowledge of federal and state building codes and zoning ordinances; international experience preferred
  14. Ability to understand client needs and expectations, including budget limitations, design needs, and schedule impacts
  15. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, meet deadlines, and perform essential duties satisfactorily
Education & Experience
  1. Professional degree from a school accredited by the NCARB
  2. Architectural license
  3. Six (6) or more years of experience with architectural design, contract documents, and construction administration, including four (4) years in a project leadership role
  4. Legal authorization to work in the United States (required)
