Job summary

Gensler in Oakland seeks a seasoned Project Architect with deep healthcare expertise to translate clinical needs into intelligent design and lead project teams through complex projects.

Guided by our Radically Human philosophy, you will manage client communications, coordinate with consultants, conduct code reviews, mentor staff, and ensure documentation quality from conception through construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and 8+ years healthcare project experience.
  • Licensed Architect in California.
  • Direct HCAI project experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building codes and U.S. regulations.
  • Experience coordinating with structural, MEP, civil, and specialty consultants.
  • Proven ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • Experience managing client communications and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client communication, project coordination, and liaise with general contractors.
  • Lead technical communication across the project team, clients, vendors, and permitting agencies.
  • Conduct code and accessibility reviews and prepare clear reports.
  • Provide technical guidance to resolve design and construction challenges.
  • Prepare and maintain construction documents, manuals, and specs.
  • Mentor team members on documentation standards and code requirements.
  • Conduct on-site observations and prepare field reports.
  • Manage construction-phase services, submittals, RFIs, substitutions, and related docs.
  • Interface with officials during permitting and construction, HCAI and local jurisdictions.
  • Perform QA reviews of project deliverables.

Overview

Gensler’s Healthcare Practice is research‑driven and holistic, creating meaningful experiences for patients, families, staff, and providers. We seek a seasoned Project Architect with deep healthcare expertise to navigate complex regulations, translate clinical needs into intelligent design, and lead teams with clarity. What You Will Do
  • Manage client communication, project coordination, and collaboration with general contractors, ensuring full documentation alignment with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, civil, and specialty consultants.
  • Lead technical communication and coordination across the project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and permitting agencies.
  • Conduct code and accessibility reviews and prepare clear, comprehensive reports.
  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex design and construction challenges.
  • Prepare and maintain all project documentation, including construction documents, project manuals, and specifications.
  • Mentor and guide team members on construction documentation standards, constructability, and code requirements.
  • Conduct on‑site observations and produce accurate field reports.
  • Manage construction‑phase services, including processing submittals, RFIs, substitution requests, and related documentation.
  • Interface with building and permitting officials throughout permitting and construction, HCAI and local jurisdictions.
  • Perform QA review of project deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with 8+ years of relevant healthcare experience.
  • Licensed Architect in the State of California.
  • Direct HCAI project experience.
  • Strong technical expertise, including experience resolving complex design and construction issues.
  • Broad knowledge of building codes, standards, and U.S. industry regulations, with direct experience on design‑build projects.
  • Proven ability to produce clear, thorough, and accurate technical documentation.
  • Extensive experience coordinating full project documentation with structural, MEP, civil, and specialty consultants.
  • Ability to effectively manage client communication, multidisciplinary teams, and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Revit (required).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse team structures.
Compensation
  • The base salary will be estimated between $118,000–$135,000 plus bonuses and benefits, and is contingent on relevant experience.
