Job description

Wayne Development is a real estate studio focused on projects that engage with history, context, and long-term value. Our work spans adaptive reuse, infill development, and small-scale mixed-use buildings that serve both function and form.

We are currently hiring our first in-house architect. This role is ideal for someone with a strong design voice who wants to help shape the culture and creative direction of a growing studio. You will take the lead on both our internal development projects and new client-facing architectural work.

This position offers an opportunity to be directly involved in design decisions, zoning and permitting strategy, and construction execution. You’ll work side by side with the founder, contributing to active projects while helping to grow a full-service architecture and development practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead schematic and design development efforts for current and upcoming buildings

  • Research zoning, codes, and permitting requirements

  • Produce architectural drawings, visualizations, and presentations

  • Coordinate with consultants, city agencies, and construction teams

  • Develop client-facing work, including feasibility studies and concept design for third-party developers

Qualifications:

  • 5 to 10 years of architectural experience in a professional setting

  • Licensed architect (or actively pursuing licensure)

  • Strong design portfolio that demonstrates clarity, technical skill, and an appreciation for material and context

  • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino or SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering tools such as Enscape or Twinmotion

  • Familiarity with construction documentation, entitlements, and working with city departments

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Experience with historic buildings or adaptive reuse projects is highly valued

What We Offer:

  • A leadership role with space to influence design and direction

  • Direct access to real development work, including financing, entitlements, and build-out

  • Opportunity to see your designs move from concept to construction quickly

  • A flexible hybrid work environment based in Jersey City

  • Annual salary with performance-based bonus potential

  • Long-term growth opportunities, including profit sharing or leadership equity
