Job summary

Optum in Eden Prairie, MN seeks an experienced Senior Architect to define end-to-end analytics platform architecture for Risk Adjustment, Quality Analytics, and care management initiatives. You will lead design reviews, drive cloud-native modernization, and partner with product, engineering, and operations to align technical solutions with business goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or enterprise application development, including 5+ years in an Architecture role.
  • 8+ years of experience designing and implementing large-scale analytics, data processing, and cloud-based data solutions.
  • 5+ years of solid hands-on expertise with Azure technologies (Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, Azure SQL) and cloud-native data architecture patterns.
  • 5+ years of experience with distributed computing, data processing, and programming languages including Spark, PySpark, SQL, Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML and GenAI-driven solutions, including utilizing tools such as GitHub Copilot, LLMs, MLOps frameworks, and intelligent automation capabilities
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD automation, DevOps practices, and cloud governance models
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise-scale data pipelines, data lakes, Lakehouse architectures, and high-volume analytical platforms

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the end-to-end architecture for the Analytics Platform supporting Risk Adjustment, Quality Analytics, Chart Targeting, Care Management, and Analytics & Reporting solutions
  • Lead architecture and design reviews for strategic initiatives, including System integration, analytics modernization, and workflow automation
  • Design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient big data solutions leveraging Azure Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Kafka, and cloud-native services
  • Establish architecture standards, reusable frameworks, and engineering best practices to improve scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability across platforms
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, and Business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions aligned with organizational objectives
  • Drive platform modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy technologies to cloud-native architectures, workflow orchestration modernization, and infrastructure automation
  • Lead complex data integration strategies involving claims, membership, provider, pharmacy, quality, and risk adjustment datasets across multiple lines of business (MA, ACA, Medicaid)
  • Utilize GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex, and enterprise AI platforms to improve developer productivity, automate engineering workflows, accelerate code reviews, and improve solution quality
  • Define observability, reliability, governance, security, and compliance standards across analytics platforms and data pipelines
  • Collaborate with DevOps and operations teams to proactively identify architectural risks, improve resiliency, and drive rapid resolution of production incidents
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to engineering teams while establishing governance through Architecture Review Boards (ARB) and solution reviews
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct proofs of concept (POCs), and recommend innovative solutions that improve business outcomes, operational efficiency, and client experience

Primary Responsibilities:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare analytics, risk adjustment, claims analytics, quality analytics, provider performance, or value-based care solutions
  • Experience leading cloud transformation and analytics modernization initiatives with measurable business outcomes related to cost reduction
  • Knowledge of Medicare Advantage, ACA, Medicaid, RAF, HCC, HEDIS, Chart Review, Suspecting Analytics, and Clinical Quality programs


Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
