Job summary

The National Park Service, Big Cypress National Preserve, in Ochopee, Florida, seeks a GS-12 cultural resources specialist to manage historic preservation documentation and NHPA compliance.

You will advise park management on cultural resources, identify and monitor resources, and plan archaeological projects and field investigations in accordance with NHPA Section 106, NAGPRA, and ARPA, building long-range inventories and interpretation strategies.

Summary

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Southeast Region, Big Cypress National Preserve, in Ochopee, Florida.

Major Duties

At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Responsible for the preparation of historic preservation documentation, compliance and background materials, and consultation documentation for all undertakings, as required by Section 106 and Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), Archeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), NPS Management Policies, and cultural resources management guidelines. Serves as an advisor to park management on cultural resources. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors cultural resources; identifies potential threats; and makes recommendations to management regarding status and mitigation of impacts (present and future). Plans and conducts archaeological projects and research for planning documents, including environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, and archaeological field investigations in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Provide technical information to ensure quality control of cultural resources data collected in field studies. Develops and implements long range plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, research, and interpretation of the archeological and other cultural resources within the appropriate mission, objectives, and resources contexts
