Job summary

A leading archaeological firm in Colorado is looking for a qualified individual to provide archaeological support, conduct surveys, and assist in excavations. Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or a related field, completed an archaeological field school, and possess basic knowledge in artifact identification. The role involves maintaining quality standards and adhering to safety protocols while participating in fieldwork. A competitive compensation package is included, with expected earnings between $21.50 to $23.50 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree specifically in Archaeology, Anthropology or a closely related field.
  • Must have completed an archaeological field school or have equivalent field experience.
  • Understanding of artifact identification, soils, and basic stratigraphy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations under supervision.
  • Identify artifacts, record stratigraphy, and document findings.
  • Maintain and communicate about equipment and safety procedures.

Skills

Basic knowledge of artifact identification
Familiar with Microsoft Office programs
Able to use Global Positioning Systems

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
Completion of an archaeological field school

Job description

General Responsibilities

Provide archaeological support which may include archaeological surveys, testing, or excavations, and corresponding documentation. Adhere to strict safety standards.

Essential Roles And Responsibilities
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and basic documentation.
  • Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
  • Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms.
  • Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Communicate basic information to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
  • Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Able to use Global Positioning Systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Compensation and Benefits

Terracon’s Total Rewards program includes compensation, benefits (including employee ownership), recognition and training & development. Terracon considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate's work experience, work location, education/training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Terracon anticipates paying $21.50 to $23.50 within the salary range for this position.
