CLOSING DATE: October 2nd, 2026POSITION: Archaeologist SeniorSALARY: $35.13-$40.73, per hourREPORTS TO: Program ManagerLOCATION: History and Archaeology, Nespelem, WABasic Functions: This is an Exempt position. The Archaeologist Sr. is an Exempt professional position in the History/Archaeology Program. The position will entail both office and field work. The incumbent will prepare scopes of work and budgets for projects. Incumbent will conduct archaeological fieldwork (i.e., survey/inventory, evaluative testing, mitigation, and treatment activities) on a project-by-project basis. Incumbent is expected to have experience in all phases of archaeological projects and understand site recording, mapping, photography, and site interpretations. Experience using GPS and GIS technology, graphic programs, and either lithic analysis or historic-era artifact analysis is preferred. Experience using LiDAR and Drone Technology preferred. The ability to identify human remains (as opposed to faunal remains) is preferred. Incumbent conducts documentation of archaeological sites, including site mapping, preparation of all field forms, and screening of artifacts during field projects, and post-field artifact processing. Incumbent prepares reports following fieldwork. Incumbent serves as a Field Director or Crew Chief on specified projects. Incumbent will review Section 106 compliance letters and documents. Must supervise or assist in the training of less experienced staff in field procedures and methodologies. Generous leave package includes paid holidays, sick leave, and annual leave for Full-Time and Part-Time employees.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Training:Requires a Master’s degree in Anthropology, History, Archaeology, or Cultural Resources Management pertinent to the position; AND 4 years field experience in prehistoric archaeology with an emphasis in CRM contract work; AND supervisory experienceMust have a valid Washington State Driver’s LicenseMust successfully clear a criminal history background inquiry and financial inquiry.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Requires demonstrate knowledge of cultural resources laws and regulations;Requires familiarity implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act as described in 36CFR800;Requires work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of this positionRequires knowledge of standard archaeological equipment and techniques required;Requires to have some knowledge of the cultural history or language(s) of the CCT;Requires to have some knowledge of the geography in the Columbia River;Requires to demonstrate a working knowledge of CCT history, culture, legends, and traditions as they pertain to the 12 Tribes.Requires knowledge to conduct background research independently.Requires to be able to multitask and meet deadlinesRequires the ability to write and produce reports to professional standards, including knowledge of appropriate writing style, layout, citation procedures, map preparation, and preparation of final and published documents.Requires maintaining project administrative paperwork preferred.Requires incumbent must be able to interact with the public in a positive and friendly wayRequires incumbent must be self-motivated and have an ability to work aloneRequires to have a basic comfort level with hand tools (hammers, screw drivers, etc.)Requires incumbent must be able and willing to ask for assistanceRequires incumbent must maintain good judgement and common senseRequires to be able to work cooperatively with co-workers, elders, and the visiting publicNote: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
