Job summary

System One is hiring Archaeological Field Technicians for a large cultural resource survey outside Fort Stockton, Texas. The initial 12-day field session will run mid-to-late August with long-term work starting in November and continuing for roughly seven to eight months.

Responsibilities include intensive pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, site identification and meticulous documentation. Lodging is provided; overtime is expected as projects demand; multiple positions are available.

Qualifications

  • Previous archaeological fieldwork or accredited field school.
  • Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience with pedestrian survey, shovel testing and site recording.
  • West Texas, New Mexico or broader Southwest archaeological experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in remote terrain.
  • Ability to work extended days and overtime.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.

  • Complete approximately 10 shovel tests per day, depending on field conditions.
  • Identify and record archaeological sites, isolated finds and cultural resources.
  • Accurately complete field forms, shovel-test records and site documentation.
  • Assist with site mapping, photography and artifact identification.
  • Follow established safety, archaeological and quality-control procedures.
  • Work effectively under the direction of crew chiefs and project leadership.
  • Hike substantial distances and work outdoors in changing weather conditions.

Pay: Up to $27 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Initial 12-day field session in mid-to-late August; anticipated long-term work beginning in November

Job Overview

We are hiring Archaeological Field Technicians for a large cultural resource survey supporting a power-generation and data-center development outside Fort Stockton, Texas. The overall project area encompasses approximately 90,000 acres.

The initial field session will last approximately 12 days in mid-to-late August and will include survey coverage across approximately 7,000-10,000 acres. The project is expected to resume in November and continue for approximately seven to eight months.

Project Schedule

The initial assignment will consist of approximately 12 consecutive field days in August. When the project resumes in November, the anticipated schedule is 10 days on and four days off, working approximately 10 hours per day. The long-term phase is expected to continue for seven to eight months.
