Job summary

Ideal candidates hold an MA/MS in archaeology, have 5+ years of experience in cultural resources, and are SOI-qualified. GIS skills (AGOL, Field Maps) and SHPO coordination are a plus. Valid driver's license required.

Your Opportunity

This is a career opportunity for an archaeologist based in Georgia to join a leading environmental consulting firm serving private-sector and federal, state, and local government clients throughout the southeastern United States. The successful candidate will lead cultural resources projects, manage and mentor early-career staff, and support business development. Responsibilities include directing field investigations, supervising field teams, and preparing technical deliverables.

The position provides an opportunity to help expand the firm's cultural resources practice in the region and contribute to its future direction and organization. The individual will join an established team with decades of experience across the Southeast.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Supervise cultural resource projects, including Phase I archaeological surveys, Phase II testing, and Phase III mitigations, for a variety of clients and sectors
• Prepare archaeological reports that comply with Section 106, NEPA, and SHPO standards.
• Collaborate in growing the cultural resources practice in Georgia and Alabama by helping establish the personnel and resources needed to support project delivery.
• Contribute to proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients independently or under the direction and mentorship of senior staff.
• Provide supervision, training, and mentoring to early-career staff.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Experience leading and conducting all phases of cultural resource work; Georgia, north Florida, or Alabama.
• Ability to assess eligibility and effects for the built environment is optional but a plus.
• Able to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines to ensure successful project delivery.
• Experience coordinating with SHPO staff and other regulatory agencies.
• Strong GIS skills with experience in the ESRI ecosystem including AGOL and Field Maps.
• Experience in transportation, transmission, and energy a plus.
• SOI qualified in Archaeology or a related field.
• Demonstrated writing, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Education and Experience

• MA or MS in archaeology or a related field. An emphasis on Georgia and southeastern cultural resources preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in cultural resources with at least 2 years in a leadership position.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
