Job summary

Jobtailor in Houston, TX is looking for an on-site archaeological field technician to support surveys, excavations and artifact collection under a Crew Chief. You will help document findings with standardized forms and maintain field equipment.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or a related field, completed an accredited field school, and is proficient with GPS and Microsoft Office. A valid driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
• Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
• Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
• Able to use Global Positioning Systems
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
• Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and basic documentation.
• Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
• Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms.
• Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
• Maintain equipment.
• Communicate basic information to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
