Job description

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is actively seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in the Central California Area, including Fresno and the Central Valley. Candidates must be within a commutable distance and able to support field work on-site as needed.

Who You Are

  • You are an effective team member experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation of archaeological and/or paleontological resources in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines. You reside in Central Valley, California to support local work. Candidates from elsewhere in California will be considered if they are available to travel to remote locations, including potential travel to Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, or a related field. You are familiar with app-based software for field recordation and mapping.
  • You have experience working on active construction sites, completing DPR forms, and are knowledgeable of regional archaeological materials. A minimum of six months of field experience or relevant academic experience in Northern California is required.
  • You enjoy working outdoors, can walk long distances carrying up to 50 lbs., and can work in various conditions, including strenuous habitats and adverse weather. Some night and weekend work may be required.
  • You possess a valid driver's license and experience driving off-road 4WD vehicles.

As an archaeological field technician, you will support field projects in Northern California by monitoring construction activities, identifying archaeological and paleontological resources, coordinating with construction personnel, and maintaining detailed records using electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications.

Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required for survey and related tasks.

Compensation

ESA offers pay ranges tailored to geographic and economic factors. For this role, the approximate range is $23.73—$37.59 USD per hour, depending on experience, education, skills, and location.
