Archaeological Field Technician - Ft. Bragg, NC

The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) seeks to hire multiple, fulltime Archaeological Field Technicians to conduct Phase I pedestrian surveys and testing at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Hourly technician positions are temporary (2-4 months).


RESPONSIBILITIES

Multiple Archaeological Field Technicians will work as a team performing all fieldwork activities, including:

  1. Phase I pedestrian surveys
  2. GPS data collection
  3. Excavation of shovel test pits
  4. Site recordation
  5. Feature and artifact identification and analysis
  6. Mapping

Work shall be performed under direction and supervision of the Crew Chief and on-site Field Director.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional work experience in archaeology, including experience in pedestrian archaeological field survey, mapping and recording archaeological sites on official forms, and National Register eligibility test excavations.
  • Working knowledge of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology.
  • Thorough understanding of most standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA or BS Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field is preferred.
  • Highly qualified candidates will possess greater than one (1) year of professional work experience.
  • Previous field experience in the Southeast, particularly North Carolina, is highly desirable.
  • Experience communicating technical information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with National Historic Preservation Act, Section 106 (36 CFR 800) is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS/ArcPro, AGOL, and ESRI data collection applications.

PAY RATE
  • $26 per hour
  • Lodging may be available - temporary shared housing for the duration of appointment.
  • This is a full-time Hourly position.
