Job summary

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) seeks Archaeological Field Technicians to support on-site cultural resource mitigation during construction in Northern Nevada and Southern Idaho. You will work with crew chiefs, PI, and cultural resources teams to document, delineate, and implement avoidance measures for resources to keep projects advancing.

The role is field-intensive, full-time 60-72 hours per week, limited-term for 6 months with possible extension.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years field technician experience in Great Basin fieldwork.
  • Experience with mitigation for infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with Section 106, NHPA and agency permitting.
  • Identify prehistoric and historic materials.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record.
  • Ability to work in remote/ rugged field environments.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 training preferred; wilderness first aid preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, document, and evaluate archaeological materials, features, and finds.
  • Follow leadership on excavation techniques and recording.
  • Maintain compliance with permit conditions and environmental commitments.
  • Complete daily field notes and collect GPS data as instructed.
  • Collaborate with crew chiefs, PI, and cultural resources teams.

ERM is hiring Archaeological Field Technicians to participate in on-site cultural resource mitigation, compliance and mitigation support during the construction phase of our client’s transmission and distribution project in Northern Nevada and Southern Idaho.The field technician will work closely with crew chiefs, archaeological PI, cultural resources teams both from ERM and subconsultants, and coordinators to participate in mitigation, delineate, analyze, and implement avoidance measures for cultural resources to support uninterrupted project progress while maintaining regulatory compliance. This role requires familiarity with varying field techniques, recognition of cultural resources, clear communication, and the ability to work safely and effectively in active construction and diverse, rugged environments.The position requires the ability to work collaboratively. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project. This is a full-time (60-72 hours/week), limited-term role with a duration of 6 months and the possibility of extension.ResponsibilitiesWork with the Crew Chief or PI to identify, document, and evaluate archaeological materials, features, and isolated findsFollow instructions from cultural leadership on appropriate excavation techniques and recordationExecute work in a manor that maintains compliance with cultural resource permit conditions and environmental commitmentsComplete daily field notesCollect GPS data as instructedOther duties as assigned or requiredCompliance with ERM’s rigorous safety programRequirementsBachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field preferredMinimum of 2 years of field technician experience in Great Basin archaeological fieldworkExperience with mitigation for infrastructure projectsFamiliarity with Section 106, NHPA, and BLM, NV, and ID agency permitting requirementsAbility to identify prehistoric and historic-period archaeological materialsExperience using GPS units, Survey123, ArcGIS, or similar field data collection toolsValid driver's license with a satisfactory driving recordAbility to work safely in active construction environments and outdoor field conditionsPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree preferred. Candidates with relevant professional experience demonstrating a commensurate level of knowledge and expertise are also encouraged to apply.Qualification under the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards (36 CFR Part 61) in Archaeology preferred.Experience working in remote areas for extended periodsDemonstrated ability to support projects requiring sustained field engagementExperience working alongside Native American tribal monitorsOSHA 10- or 30-hour construction safety trainingWilderness and Remote First Aid TrainingWork EnvironmentThis position is field-intensive and may involve:Long hours in outdoor environments and temperature extremesWalking or hiking on uneven terrain while carrying field equipmentWorking in active construction sites around heavy equipmentCandidates must be physically capable of performing required field duties safelyPay Transparency:For the Archaeological Field Technicians position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $73,985.60 – $94,910.40, or $35.57 hr-$45.63 hr USD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life & disability insurance to benefits eligible* employees.*Benefits Eligibility is limited to Regular employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week.
