Job summary

The City of Chaska is seeking a Lifeguard Instructor to teach ARC Lifeguard courses and related trainings at our aquatic facilities. The instructor may also deliver CPR, AED, First Aid, and related ARC programs to staff and the community.

Responsibilities include preparing classes, monitoring participant performance, maintaining records, and coordinating course offerings with the Aquatics Supervisor. Strong communication, organization and safety knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Current ARC Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
• Comprehensive knowledge of ARC safety and lifesaving techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret training materials and communicate clearly to others.
• Ability to plan, instruct, evaluate and supervise training activities.
• Ability to perform all rescue skills being taught and demonstrate proper techniques.
• Organizational and time-management skills.
• Problem solving and independent judgement.
• Self-directed and detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Arrange, prepare and conduct Lifeguard Training classes per ARC standards.
• Observe participants and provide feedback and corrections.
• Communicate progress and needs to each participant.
• Maintain ARC knowledge for taught courses.
• Complete attendance, rosters and certification records.
• Coordinate offerings with Aquatics Supervisor.
• Assess equipment and supply needs with supervisor.
• Prepare classroom and manage materials and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
