Job summary

Dept of State Health Services in Austin seeks a Molecular Biologist II to support the Arbovirus-Entomology team. You will identify arthropods, perform molecular testing, and help maintain workflow and supplies for arbovirus diagnostics.

The role involves real-time PCR, RNA extractions, and cell culture with immunofluorescence as needed, contributing to state public health surveillance and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical lab science.
• Education aligned with CLIA standards may apply.
• Experience in molecular diagnostics is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate mosquito identification for arbovirus isolation and prepare collection/shipping materials.
• Perform real-time RT-PCR and RNA extractions; analyze Ct values and input results.
• Coordinate cell culture for arbovirus testing and perform immunofluorescent staining as needed.
• Maintain laboratory records and ensure quality control.
