The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking an Arborist Trainee Internship candidate for Summer 2027 in the Denver area. This on-site, temporary full-time internship offers hands-on tree care experience across diagnostics, pruning, climbing, and safety training.

Starting date is flexible for Summer 2027, with opportunities to learn in a supportive, employee-owned environment and potential career advancement through industry-leading training and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Passion for outdoor work.
• Experience in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or height work.
• Ability to complete orientation and safety training.
• Possession of pesticide licenses if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and get paid to do it.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while learning new skills.
• Learn pruning and removal safely and skillfully for clients.
• Identify trees and apply pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood from canopies.
• Assist in installing cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Assist in hazardous-tree removal.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws.
• Grow professionally; potential to advance with the company.

Summer 2027 Arborist Trainee Internship with Davey Tree Expert Company

STARTING DATE: Flexible - We are currently seeking internship candidates for Summer 2027. This is a temporary, full-time position ideal for college students on summer break who want to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Rate of pay: $22.00 hourly

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
