General Statement of Duties

Under direct oversight, the Arborist I performs general tree care operations within City of Cincinnati rights-of-way, parks, and other public properties. The Arborist works under the guidance of the Lead Arborist, supporting tree maintenance activities such as pruning, removal, planting, pest/disease management, and stump grinding. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)
  • Knowledge Of: Tree identification, maintenance techniques, equipment use, plant healthcare, basic math, and data collection methods.
  • Skill To: Perform tree maintenance according to industry standards, operate equipment safely, and maintain tools and machinery.
  • Ability To: Communicate effectively, work as part of a team, make safety-focused decisions, understand instructions, and collect data using GIS platforms.
  • Experience: At least two years in landscaping, horticulture, or tree care, with practical knowledge in pruning, fertilization, diagnosis, and treatment of tree issues.
  • Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License; ability to obtain ISA Certified Arborist and Ohio Pesticide License within 12 months; willingness to work irregular hours and respond to emergencies.
Additional Notes

This position involves outdoor and indoor work, exposure to weather, heavy equipment, and potentially hazardous materials. Candidates must pass a Civil Service exam and meet physical requirements for tree work.
