Job summary

Grand Rapids Housing Commission seeks an Accounting Clerk to perform accounts receivable and payable duties, handle payments, invoices, and client statements, and maintain accurate financial records.

The role provides responsive service to landlords, clients, vendors, and staff, supporting financial transparency and timely reporting while ensuring compliance with standard procedures and documentation controls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
• Proven experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles, especially with bank reconciliation and accounts payable.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong numerical ability and attention to detail.
• Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Receive, record, and apply accounts receivable payments accurately and in accordance with procedures.
• Prepare payment reports and client statements and maintain supporting records.
• Respond to landlord and client questions regarding payments, account changes, statements, and updates.
• Research routine payment discrepancies and refer complex matters to appropriate staff.
• Process accounts payable transactions by entering invoices into the system and verifying documentation.
• Match invoices to payments and maintain complete records in the document-management system.
• Maintain confidential financial records in line with procedures and retention requirements.
• Collaborate with Finance and other departments to resolve routine transaction issues.
