Job summary

The Museum of Modern Art is seeking an Accountant to manage accounts receivable, apply payments, process credit cards, generate aging reports with reserve calculations, and post month-end journal entries.

The role supports investments, fixed assets, and donor accounting, and aims to implement BI systems to optimize processes. On-site four days per week with a strong customer-service focus and collaborative style.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 3–5 years accounting experience, preferably in a museum or not-for-profit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and accounts receivable policies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good teamwork.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and organized work habits.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare account reconciliations and clear reconciling items for receivables and related accounts.
  • Apply payments to customer records via cash, wires, and checks.
  • Process credit card transactions from revenue channels as needed.
  • Coordinate collections for overdue accounts and report results.
  • Prepare AR aging analyses and reserve calculations for month-end.
  • Monitor AR help desk tickets and respond to requests promptly.
  • Calculate and maintain receivables including leases and other revenue streams.
  • Create month-end journal entries for T&E and other expenses.
  • Reconcile income statement and balance sheet accounts and assist variance analysis.
  • Assist with audits, system improvements, and use of AI for close processes.
  • Record and upload investment-related transactions and fixed asset tasks.
