General Purpose:
Directs the overall performance of the entire pool operation, including the safe and effective use of chemicals, swimming instruction, and the club’s swim team. Supervise a safe, clean, well-maintained, and appealing club swimming facility.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
- Provides necessary orientation and training for pool staff.
- Formulates weekly work schedules and rotation schedules for all pool employees.
- Maintains proper chemical balance in pools and maintains mechanical equipment in coordination with the club’s maintenance department.
- Registers members at the pool and charges for all guests, lessons, etc.
- Resolves customer service items in a timely and effective manner.
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining excellent service to achieve guest satisfaction.
- Thoroughly understands specific state and local laws and statutes regarding pool safety and inspections.
- Enforces club rules of safety and conduct.
- Monitors and coordinates pool safety programs and risk management.
- Assists in rendering First Aid according to the standards established by the American Red Cross and American Heart Association.
- Plans and directs special events, camps, programs, and helps when necessary.
- Writes correspondence to club members about swim lesson dates, class times, and general information.
- Arranges a program of and schedule for private and group swim lessons.
- Represents the club in activities as required.
- Develops an annual operating and staffing budget; takes corrective actions as necessary to assure that budget goals are attained.
- Maintains and keeps all necessary records concerning the pool.
- Develops and implements a pool safety program and schedules staff to provide adequate protection for members and their guests.
- Interacts with outside contractors to maintain and upgrade pool areas.
- Provides aquatics-related information for the club newsletter.
- Manages the pool area, including changing rooms & restrooms for cleanliness.
- Assists with the pool snack bar.
- Maintains presence at pool events.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
Education/Experience:
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation Management, or Health Sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Maintains all proper certifications and training for self and pool staff.
- Three years of experience as an Assistant Pool Manager at a club of comparable size and stature or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Competitive swimming experience as either a coach or athlete preferred but not essential.
- Lifeguard training and experience teaching swim lessons required.
- Private club experience preferred.
Certificates/Licenses:
- Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate.
- American Red Cross Basic First Aid.
- Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) or within 90 days of start date.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment, which is typical of this position.
- Working conditions are often hot, humid, slippery, and wet.
- Able to tolerate the smell of chlorine and frequent exposure to cleaning agents.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
