Job summary

The City of Deerfield Beach seeks a Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor to promote a year-round aquatics program including Learn to Swim, swim team, and camps. Responsibilities include teaching, lifeguarding, event support, and program promotion.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, six months of related experience, current lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certifications, and ability to pass a skills test. Evening and weekend work required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Six (6) months of experience as a lifeguard, water safety instructor or relevant water skills, safety training and swim experience or equivalent.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or other nationally accredited certification.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
• Passing of skills test: 300 yards swim, 2:00 treading water, 1:40 brick recovery; swim test scheduled later.

Responsibilities

• Teaches group and private lessons in Learn to Swim and other aquatic classes.
• Aids in coaching year-round recreational swim team, water polo, water aerobics, and other programs.
• Provides lifeguard services and CPR/First Aid.
• Assists with event setup/breakdown at Aquatic Complex.
• Manages daily admission, class fees, and memberships.
• Promotes and markets aquatic programs and facilities.
• Maintains attendance, inventory, and training reports.
• Plans and implements programs, including after-school and summer camps.
• Interacts with City staff, community groups, volunteers, seniors, and general public.
• Ensures safety of participants by following city policies; monitors activity.
• Monitors facilities for security, equipment condition, cleanliness, and hazards.
• Greets visitors and maintains supplies inventory.
• Assists in planning and monitoring programs for all ages.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed.
