Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo seeks an Aquatics Group Exercise Instructor to lead safe, engaging water fitness classes for members. You will create positive experiences in the pool and support wellness through inclusive instruction, while adhering to YMCA policies.

Evening and weekend program hours are typical, and this role offers a starting wage of $15.00 per hour, with opportunities to grow within the YMCA’s wellness programs and community impact.

Qualifications

• CPR/AED/First Aid certification obtained within 60 days of employment.
• Experience in leading or participating in group water wellness programs.
• Experience teaching or leading groups.
• Experience instructing group water fitness classes preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead group water exercise classes as directed to support member wellness.
• Provide safe, engaging, and educational classes.
• Build relationships with members and connect them to the YMCA.
• Maintain knowledge of wellness trends to advise members.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Follow YMCA policies and respond to emergencies.

Position Summary

Instructs group water exercise classes. Provides excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

• Leads group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes.
• Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency.

Qualifications

• CPR/AED/1st Aid – must obtain within first 60 days of employment
• Experience in leading or participating in group water wellness programs
• Experience teaching or leading groups
• Experience instructing group water fitness classes preferred

Work Environment And Physical Demands

• Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to fitness
• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
