Role Description

The Aquatics Director is a full-time, on-site role based in Foxborough (Foxboro), MA, responsible for overseeing all aquatic programs and operations. Day-to-day tasks include managing swim lesson schedules, supervising lifeguards and swim instructors, and ensuring all safety and risk management protocols are consistently followed. The role involves monitoring pool conditions, maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations, and responding promptly to any aquatic emergencies or concerns. The Aquatics Director will develop, evaluate, and enhance aquatics programming for participants of all ages and abilities, as well as support staff hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training. This role also collaborates with other YMCA departments to promote aquatic programs, support member engagement, and contribute to a positive, inclusive community environment.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Aquatics operations and Swimming skills, with the ability to model and evaluate safe water practices.


• Experience in Swim Instruction and Swim Lessons program development, including working with varied age groups and skill levels.


• Current or eligible certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and related safety credentials, with commitment to ongoing training.


• Previous experience supervising aquatics staff, managing schedules, and maintaining compliance with pool safety and regulatory standards.


• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on inclusive customer service and relationship-building with members, staff, and community partners.


• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, including facility oversight, incident documentation, and program evaluation.


• Experience in a nonprofit, recreation, or community-focused environment is beneficial; prior YMCA experience is a plus.


• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, education, sports management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
