Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the appropriate Director, the Aquatic Coordinator will assist with the leadership, management, and supervision of the Aquatics Department and staff to provide the highest quality programming within a safe environment. A 40-hour work week will be necessary to accomplish the assigned responsibilities.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 21
  2. Must have 1 year of experience supervising staff
  3. Relevant experience in aquatics and college degree preferred

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to frequently perform the following physical activities; swim, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and communicate verbally
  2. Must be able to perform work both indoors and out and be exposed to prevalent weather conditions
  3. Must maintain lifeguard certification level of physical and mental readiness
  4. Must be able to visually see all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
  5. Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals
  6. Must possess ability to remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods of time to ensure safety of participants
  7. Must possess ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  8. Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision
  9. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  10. Must be able to handle questions/concerns and resolve conflicts in a courteous and professional manner
  11. Must maintain a neat and professional appearance

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete BLS/AED, First Aid, O2, Lifeguard Certification in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Understand and abide by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  5. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for maintaining all lifeguard skills as required in lifeguard certification.
  2. Responsible for providing excellent customer service to staff, participants, members, volunteers and general public.
  3. Responsible for assisting in training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating all staff and volunteers.
  4. Assisting in development and enforcement of departmental policies
  5. Keeping accurate records of Aquatic participation numbers.
  6. Evaluating service on a regular basis through written and oral means to improve quality.
  7. Maintaining complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
  8. Assisting in the development of department policies and enforce those established.
  9. Responsible for being visible to staff and members at all times while on duty
  10. Supporting membership and program operations by training and communicating information quickly.
  11. Keeping up to date inventory on all equipment, materials, and supplies; regularly checking all pool equipment to ensure it is properly maintained and report any irregularities to maintenance personnel for repair.
  12. Directly responsible for maintaining Aquatic area in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  13. Following all risk management guidelines according to branch policies and procedures and prepared to implement emergency procedures
  14. Notifying supervisor of any concerns with the facility or equipment to ensure a safe place
  15. Enforcing all program rules and policies
  16. Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  17. Responsible for scheduled hours; securing substitutes when necessary; notifying supervisor in advance, and in writing.
  18. Maintaining effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and staff.
  19. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
  20. All other duties as assigned.
