Health First is seeking a qualified fitness instructor to enhance member experiences through engaging exercise classes. The role requires proper certifications, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to adapt classes for diverse populations. This position offers flexible per diem scheduling, allowing for a dynamic work environment focused on quality care.
POSITION SUMMARY
To be fully engaged in Health First’s commitments to delivering quality care and customer
experience by servicing members’ needs through orientation, education, instruction, and
evaluation in the area of health and fitness.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Provide safe and effective classes consistent with class descriptions.
2. Ensure areas are tidy, clean, and organized with oversight of members’ safety and
adherence to policy.
3. Work with leadership to add new programming and classes to enhance member experience.
4. Modify class content to accommodate various ability levels.
5. Report any customer and/or safety concerns to Pro-Health leadership.
6. Develop music for use with appropriate class population.
7. Arrange for substitute instructors and notify coordinator of arrangements.
8. Responsible to handle an emergency code in regard to American Heart Association’s
Heartsaver CPR & AED Program. Must be ability to handle the code alone if necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: High School/GED
• Licensure: None required
• Certification:
o Must hold current American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR & AED or
Heartcode BLS Provider Program Card prior to start date and maintain.
o Current/active group exercise certification by AFAA or ACE or other approved
certifying body
• Work Experience: 3 months experience working in a related field and/or experience in a
group exercise environment.
• Work Experience in lieu of Education: N/A
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
o Good personality and enjoy working with different populations.
o Exceptional customer service skills
o Ability to perform physical demands of teaching and substituting exercise classes
o Demonstrate (verbally and physically) modifications for all ability levels
o Knowledgable of aquatic exercise principles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: No additional
Licensure: NA
• Certification: Aquatic Instructor certification by a nationally recognized organization (AEA,
WaterArt) or other approved certifying body
• Work Experience: One year of experience in a wellness/fitness setting and/or group
exercise instruction.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: No additional
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping
• Long periods of computer time or at workstation
• Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without
assistance.
• May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting
and/or low to moderate noise
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
• Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require
use of personal vehicle
