Job summary

Landis Communities in Lititz, PA is seeking a part-time Lifeguard/Pool Assistant to support aquatic programs for residents and clients. The position offers 20 hours bi-weekly, with weekday day shifts and occasional Saturday hours, 6:30 AM–5:30 PM, and some 7:30 AM–1:30 PM shifts.

Primary duties include supervising pool activities, assisting with a variety of exercises and events, ensuring a safe environment, and helping with pool orientation, maintenance, and water testing.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• HS diploma or GED required.
• Lifeguard or Shallow Water Attendant certification required.
• First Aid certification required.
• CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining aquatic exercise programs and activities for residents and pool users.
• Assists with individual and group activities, including special events.
• Uses a gentle, caring approach to encourage pool use and exercise by elderly participants.
• Assists with pool orientation and enrollment information input as needed.
• Maintains pool safety through cleaning, water testing, and equipment checks.
• Navigates the mechanical pump room safely and independently.
• Opens and closes the pool and participates in ongoing education on aquatics and geriatrics.
• Works with volunteers in the Life Enrichment department and substitutes for other lifeguards when needed.
• Staffs monthly staff swim sessions and special events outside regular hours.
• Supports other department activities as requested by supervisors.

Position Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining a program of aquatic exercises and activities that promote positive physical, social and psychological benefits for residents, clients and community persons who use the pool.
• Assists in providing a variety of individual and group activities, including special events.
• Uses gentle, caring approach to encourage residents in using the pool and exercise programs, demonstrating familiarity with traditions, questions and fears that accompany the elderly.
• Assists with orientation to the pool for new pool participants. Inputs enrollment information as needed.
• Assists with pool maintenance, cleaning and water testing to help ensure a safe environment for swimmers.
• Shows competence in safely navigating the mechanical pump room.
• Demonstrates the ability to safely open and close the pool independently.
• Participates in continuing education programs regarding aquatics, exercises and geriatrics.
• Works alongside and directs volunteers assigned to the Life Enrichment department.
• Substitutes for other lifeguards or certified attendants when needed.
• Takes turn staffing the monthly staff swim and special events outside of regular hours.
• Assists with occasional departmental activities as requested by the Wellness Coordinator, Wellness Manager or Director of Life Enrichment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma/GED or demonstrated proficiency in reading and writing skills required.
• Has and maintains Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Attendant certification.
• Has and maintains First Aid certification.
• Has and maintains current CPR certification.
