Summary/Objective
  • The Aquaculture Technician in Training will have a passion for fish husbandry, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and will perform duties such as feeding, mortality removal, and screen scrubbing.
Essential Functions
  • Knowledge of the facility layout, including sections, pond numbers, and rearing areas.
  • Understanding of the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Dependability, trustworthiness, and consistency in role execution.
  • Understanding of the feed schedule and farm workflow.
  • Knowledge of locations of offline settling ponds, sumps, influent valves, and head ditches.
  • Knowledge about fish barriers and their uses.
  • Awareness of potential farm hazards and biosecurity measures.
  • Ability to handle mortality counting and removal, and assist with fish transfers.
  • Routine maintenance of equipment and farm safety practices.
  • Participate in safety training and follow safety guidelines.
  • Maintain farm sanitation, provide courteous service, and assist in other farm areas as needed.
Requirements

Competencies include attention to detail, safety awareness, and continual improvement. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. It operates outdoors, often in inclement weather. Physical demands include heavy lifting up to 50 lbs, working in waders, climbing, and repetitive motions. The role requires good hearing, manual dexterity, and visual acuity.

Position Details

Full-time, 5 days a week, possibly including weekends, with early morning start times. Local travel is required. Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Education & Experience
  • Ability to follow directions, speak, read, and understand instructions.
  • Preferred: High school diploma or GED, aquaculture experience, or related degree.
