Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital seeks an Aquatic Resources Technician to support the Aquatic Resources Program in maintaining research fish populations and facilities. Under the ARP Manager, you will perform operational and husbandry tasks, ensuring animal health and productivity while complying with regulations.

Responsibilities include feeding, operating recirculating systems, recording health observations, spawning and fertilization, keeping live invertebrate cultures, water quality testing, staff

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• 1+ year experience in an aquaculture environment is preferred.
• AALAS certification is preferred or being pursued.

Responsibilities

• Feeds fish populations with appropriate type and amount of food based on life stage and experimental needs.
• Operates recirculating aquaculture systems, tank washers, feeding robots, and water quality monitoring systems per SOPs and safety guidelines.
• Performs and records daily health and welfare observations and communicates adverse findings to ARP management.
• Oversees daily operation of aquaculture systems and communicates problems to ARP Manager or Specialist II.
• Performs husbandry tasks including spawning, in vitro fertilization, and related procedures.
• Maintains live invertebrate cultures for feeding larval fish.
• Performs and records water quality testing.
• Provides training on practices to new employees and scientific staff.
• Monitors supply needs and orders items in a timely manner.
