Job summary

Our West Boise YMCA is seeking AquAbility Instructors to join our team. This part-time role focuses on creating a safe, friendly environment for participants in the AquAbility program at the Treasure Valley Family YMCA in Boise, ID.

You will build relationships with youth and parents, deliver the approved curriculum, and monitor safety. Requires 18+, CPR/First Aid, and AquAbility certifications upon hire, with 14-day compliance periods.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Aquatics background preferred.
• Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
• Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
• Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be articulate.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with youth and parents by encouraging participants with honest, direct, and appropriate feedback using the Y voice attributes.
• Create a safe environment for participants through class control, role modeling safe behaviors, keeping deck clear, and being punctual.
• Implement the established curriculum that helps youth achieve the five Cause Measurement goals.
• Adapt lessons to help kids succeed using Y resources and best practices from other instructors.
• Engage in conversations with students and parents about swimmer progression, retention, and placement using appropriate discretion.
• Provide excellent delivery of AquAbility program to all members.
• Encourage members to deepen their connection with the Y cause.
• Monitor and ensure safety of participants, staff and volunteers in the AquAbility program.

Description

Our West Boise YMCA is seeking AquAbility Instructors to join our team. This position is responsible for creating a safe, friendly, and helpful atmosphere for members participating in an AquAbility program.

Serving over 20,000 active youth, adult, and family members, the West Branch of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA helps members lead a healthier, happier life. Facility amenities and features include six fitness studios, three racquetball courts, full-court basketball gym, youth activity center, climbing wall, 50-meter swimming pool, and training pool.

Schedule:

This is a part-time position and averages 5-10 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are flexible within the afternoon hours of Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Pay is $17.80-$22.25/hr.

• Engage in intentional conversation with students and parents regarding swimmer progression, retention, and placement using the Y voice attributes and an appropriate level of discretion.
• Provide excellent delivery of AquAbility program to all members.
• Engage members to deepen their relationships in the Y cause.
• Monitor and ensure safety of participants, staff and volunteers in the AquAbility program.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.

REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

• CPR/AED - Prerequisite upon hire- 14-day compliance period.
• First Aid Certification - Prerequisite upon hire- 14-day compliance period.
• AquAbility: Therapeutic Aquatics for People with Disability Certification- 14-day compliance period.
• AquAbility Certification - Prerequisite upon hire- 14-day compliance period
• Swim Instructor Certification - Prerequisite upon hire– 14-day compliance period.
