Job summary

Sherwood Aviation in the United States seeks an APU Technician to inspect, repair, overhaul, and test aircraft Auxiliary Power Units and related components in accordance with FAA regulations and manufacturer specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and experience with turbine engines or APUs in a fast-paced aviation maintenance environment.

FAA A&P certification is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in aviation maintenance, aircraft engine repair, APU maintenance, or related mechanical field preferred.
• FAA Part 145 Repair Station experience preferred.
• Knowledge of APUs, turbine engines, and related systems preferred.
• Able to read and interpret maintenance manuals, drawings, and schematics.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and specialized aviation maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and overhauls of APUs and related components.
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble APU components per maintenance procedures.
• Diagnose mechanical and operational issues to determine repairs or replacements.
• Read and interpret CMMs/AMMs, drawings, and schematics.
• Perform repairs in accordance with FAA regulations and manufacturer specs.
• Document all inspections and maintenance activities accurately.

The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing, overhauling, assembling, and testing aircraft Auxiliary Power Units and related components in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, technical troubleshooting skills, and experience working with aircraft turbine engines, APUs, or related aviation components in a fast-paced aviation maintenance and repair environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and overhauls of aircraft Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and associated components.
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble APU components in accordance with approved maintenance procedures.
• Diagnose mechanical and operational issues to determine necessary repairs or component replacements.
• Perform detailed inspections of APU components for wear, cracks, corrosion, damage, and other defects.
• Read and interpret Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), technical drawings, schematics, and other applicable maintenance documentation.
• Perform repairs and maintenance in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures.
• Utilize specialized aviation tools, precision measuring instruments, and testing equipment.
• Conduct functional testing and assist with APU test cell operations, as authorized and qualified.
• Verify proper operation of APU systems, including fuel, lubrication, pneumatic, electrical, and starting systems.
• Accurately document all inspections, repairs, testing, and maintenance activities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Identify defective or unserviceable components and ensure proper documentation and disposition.
• Maintain accountability of tools, equipment, and aircraft components throughout the repair process.
• Collaborate with Quality Control, Engineering, and Production departments to resolve technical issues and ensure timely completion of repairs.
• Follow all company safety policies, quality procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Skills and Education Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in aviation maintenance, aircraft engine repair, APU maintenance, or a related mechanical field preferred.
• Experience working in an FAA Part 145 Repair Station preferred.
• Knowledge of aircraft Auxiliary Power Units, turbine engines, and associated mechanical systems preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and maintenance instructions.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments, hand tools, and specialized aviation maintenance equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and established maintenance procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification preferred but not required, provided the employee performs work within the authorization and supervision requirements applicable to the position.

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in a shop environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to mechanical equipment
