Adult Protective Services (APS) Assessor - Region 5: Central Indiana

SSO is hiring Investigators to support the Indiana Bureau of Better Aging’s Adult Protective Services (APS) program. APS helps protect endangered adults who may be experiencing abuse, neglect, or exploitation by assessing reported concerns, determining immediate health and safety risks, and connecting endangered adults to needed services and supports. Investigators play a critical role in this work by conducting timely, field-based investigations; meeting with endangered adults in person; gathering information through interviews and record reviews. Investigators also assess risks and service needs; and document all activities in the electronic system. This role requires sound judgment, professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail, as investigators may work in sensitive or challenging environments and must help ensure the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of endangered adults while following established APS protocols and timeframes.

This role does require on-site investigations. Travel may be required within the following counties: Boone, Hamilton, Hendricks, Marion, Montgomery, Howard, Tipton, Clinton

Responsibilities

• Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving endangered adults
• Conduct thorough investigations, including interviews, record reviews, and collaboration with other investigative agencies
• Initiate and facilitate referrals to services and community resources
• Document investigation activities, including case planning, safety planning, case notes, and findings
• Serve as Priority A (within 24 hours of receipt) responder to initiate timely contact with clients facing immediate harm
• Respond to all assigned investigations within the required timeframe. Travel is required to the location of the assigned investigation.
• Ability to conduct effective fact-finding interviews by asking probing questions that uncover key information, clarify inconsistencies, and determine the severity and impact of investigative issues.
• Review and respond to quality assurance evaluations

• The usual work schedule is full-time: Monday through Friday. Although this role has a remote component, you are expected to travel within the region you were hired for up to 50% of the time.
• Must be able to conduct investigations in challenging, sensitive, or potentially uncomfortable work environments.
