PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of the apprentice technician is to learn through classes and hands-on training how to perform routine mechanical repairs on equipment. This is a PART-TIME position that involves 2 days per week in class at Wake Technical Community College and 3 days per week as a paid intern at the Gregory Poole Shop.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Work Experience: Mechanical inclination and basic knowledge through schooling or work experience.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and climb regularly to diagnose and repair equipment; effective vision for manual work and reading manuals; ability to lift and handle parts up to 112 pounds, and use mechanical hoists for heavier parts.
Other Skills: Ability to document repair activities clearly, apply reasoning and problem-solving skills, and understand technical manuals and service reports. Exposure to PC-based equipment and parts information is preferred.
