Job summary

Americold is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform routine preventive maintenance and repair across warehouse systems under close supervision. The role covers refrigeration, electrical work, doors, dock boards, forklifts, and related equipment.

You will maintain records and assist with safety tests while following attendance and on‑call requirements. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, basic mechanical knowledge, and 1–3 years of maintenance experience.

Qualifications

  • RETA courses preferred but not required.
  • HAZMAT training preferred with certification upon employment.
  • Must have basic level knowledge of OSHA PSM program.
  • 1–3 years maintenance mechanic experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic repair and adjustment of refrigeration systems, doors, dock boards, pallet racks, sweepers, and electrical work per OSHA standards.
  • Clean, change, and lubricate bearings, gears, and other parts using appropriate tools.
  • Maintain tools and machinery in good condition and use tools carefully.
  • Keep batteries and chargers in working condition per OSHA standards.
  • Test safety equipment and ensure OHSA and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records.

Job description

Primary Responsibility :

Under close supervision, performs routine general maintenance and repair throughout the warehouse. Maintenance areas include electricity, plumbing, lift truck, refrigeration, ammonia, and carpentry.

What You'll Do :
  • Performs basic repair and adjustment of refrigeration system, doors, dock boards, pallet racks, sweepers, sprinkler systems, forklifts, pallet trucks, and electrical work in accordance with OSHA Standards.
  • Cleans, changes, and lubricates bearings, gears, and other machinery parts using rags, brushes, and grease gun.
  • Maintain tools and machinery in good condition and use tools and equipment carefully as instructed.
  • Maintain batteries and chargers in working order in accordance withy OSHA Standard.
  • Conducts test of safety equipment (Exit signs, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, etc.) to ensure OHSA and operational standards.
  • Maintains accurate preventive maintenance records.
  • Follow attendance policy, show up show up for work on time and ready to work assigned shift.
  • Assist answering security alarm calls as needed.
  • Keeps work area clean and performs housekeeping duties as required.
  • Perform related work and other job assignments as required.
What Experience and Education You Need :
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude required.
  • Candidates with RETA courses preferred. However, as a condition of employment, selected candidates will be required to complete (4) courses during the first 12 months.
  • HAZMAT trained candidates are preferred. However, as a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to be trained in HAZMAT, obtain and maintain the certification.
  • Must have basic level knowledge of OSHA PSM program
  • 1 - 3 years maintenance mechanic experience.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as interpret pencil sketches and diagrams.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts if required, including on-call.
  • Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: they must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment in maintenance trades.
  • ISO knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • Microsoft knowledge preferred.
  • Forklift certification.
Physical Requirements :
  • May be required to tolerate working environment with inside controlled temperatures of -15 degrees Fahrenheit and outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold and precipitation)
  • Must tolerate heights up to 35 ft. and be able to access elevated platforms and catwalks
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; push; pull; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; and crouch
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and/or manipulate parts & tools
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Either naturally or with the aid of eye glasses
  • Able to work nights and weekends
  • Able to pass a physical and respiratory exam

The pay rate for this position is $29.00/hr.
