Job summary

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Apprentice/Technician/Journey Substation Construction Technician at York Operations Center, York, Nebraska. The role involves construction, maintenance of substations, and frequent travel with overnight stays. NERC background checks may apply.

A CDL must be obtained within six months. All Levels require a high school diploma; an associate degree in electro-mechanical or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

• All Levels require a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate's degree in electro-mechanical, electronics, electrical technology or related field preferred.
• Journey Substation Construction Technician must have achieved Substation Construction Technician status with NPPD.
• Apprentice Substation Construction Technician requires two years construction-type work.
• Substation Construction Technician requires experience as outlined in the progression program; external hires enter the progression program.

Responsibilities

• Construct and maintain substations and worksites per drawings and specifications.
• Travel frequently, with overnight stays; assist in storm restoration as needed.
• Operate heavy equipment including mobile cranes, highway diggers and large cranes.
• Layout substations, build concrete forms, place and finish concrete, anchor bolts.
• Interpret one-line electrical, mechanical and structural drawings.
